First we put a plastic bag over my head.
Then Bryson, and a girl who was with him because he had agreed to give her a ride to Santa Barbara, paper mache-d my head.We made our own paste with flour and boiled water, while we waited we tried to make the left over paste into a dessert by adding cinnamon, sugar, and chocolate.
After a couple hours in the paper mache, it dried enough, and we took it off. A couple days later we covered it in clay.
Originally we planned to make a negative mold and then pour in a resin that would then be the positive.
However when Zac saw it he suggested just covering the clay in Fiber glass.Below are some story boards I made. (Mostly shots we didn't end up shooting)
Finally these are some screen grabs from the first weekend of shooting.
Zac conceptualized and installed the LED lights, however that meant there would be no way to see out of the mask.
The Mask was built on my head, however for some reason it was much too small. We got a freshman grip to suffer in the mask for the first weekend.
By the end, we found that the executive producer's head fit best. By this time we finalized the mask with a glossy coat of paint.
Here are some photos from the last day of shooting.
By and large it was miserable to be in the mask, I had my share of time in it; little air, high tempurature, poor hearing and zero visability is a rough combination.
